Cycle 614
I'm back! As easy as it is to believe that I took the entire summer off from working out and lounging on my tush, I was checking out new studios, promise! (Not as much as I would have liked to admit, I will say, but I kept up a pretty rigorous workout schedule in between the traveling, working, eating, and more traveling).
During my traveling, I was lucky enough to try out a few new studios in Chicago thanks to my ClassPass membership, and I can't wait to share my experiences with you! Speaking of ClassPass, I have also began to participate in the #ClassPassChallenge, a 31 day challenge to post an Instagram for something new you tried each day. It's been going well so far, considering I was in Chi town for the first 7 days and will be back there next week.. how hard is it to take sweet pics of adventures in a brand new city? TBD on the rest of the month when I'm back in old Ohio.... anyway. On to another studio review!
I've decided to spend this post talking about one of my favorite types of studios to go to—cycling. Before becoming a group fitness addict, I would’ve never pegged myself as the type of person to enjoy a cycle (spin) class. Any time I have ever hopped on a stationary bike at the gym, my patience would last for about 15 minutes max and I was donezo. Even if I wasn't totally tired, I was just bored! So what would be different in a group setting and an instructor at the front of the room? Well. At Cycle 614? Everything.
Cycle 614 is located at the heart of Grandview in a cute little studio. After checking in with the front desk and receiving your bike number, you'll make your way to the back [only] cycle room of the Columbus-themed studio. Once you step in the dimly lit area (okay, so the only lights in the room are the disco ball and colored strobe lights, but how cool is that?? The instructor for your class is almost always present at the front of the room when you get there to help anyone with finding a bike, setting it up, or welcoming a new member to their first class. The atmosphere is always inviting, from the moment you step in the door to the end of class when you are ready to leave and begin your day.
Sidenote: When class is over and you leave the cycle room, there is always someone waiting outside the door with a damp wash cloth (that smells SO good) for you to use to cool down, wipe down your face/neck, etc. This is definitely one of my favorite "little extras" that I think sets Cycle 614 apart from other studios! *End of sidenote.
Basically you have to experience a class to get a real vibe for it, but all classes are named according to the music theme and every instructor I have had at the studio has always been motivating, driving, and maybe a little intimidating. Perfect for a kicka$$ workout, am I right?!
Here's a quick rundown:
My Favs:
-The studio just implemented a more diverse class schedule, so I never have problems scheduling a class for when I need it any time of the week!
-See above for those super good smelling towels OMG.
-A large monitor at the front of the room displays your performance (speed, power, and resistance) as well as everyone else's. Competitive? Perfect- that will make you work harder!
-No expensive cycle shoes needed, just wear your regular tennis shoes.
-Your first class at Cycle 614 is free, so TRY IT NOW, NO EXCUSES!
-Yeah, I said first class is free. You’d better be on their website booking a bike right now.
Thanks for hanging with me for another studio review, and be sure to check out my Instagram page to stay updated with the August #ClassPassChallenge. Enjoy!
