First of all, I’m going to start with a disclaimer—NO, this is not a blog about fitfam, gains, meal prepping, and shredding. Don’t get me wrong, kudos to the people who have time to count every macro that goes into their body. That’s a fully committed way of life! For me, my lifestyle is made up of a lot of different things. Sometimes that’s a bowl of queso & four margs at happy hour with my friends, and sometimes that’s missing a workout because I NEED SLEEP. Life happens! Staying in shape may be a higher priority to some, but we have all had those days where sleeping in for an extra hour sounds a hell of a lot more enticing than sweating it out on a 5 mile run. If you enjoy being active, but yawn at the thought of 3 reps of 10 on a machine, why make it boring? My goal for this blog is to shed a little light on what I’ve discovered that gets me excited to be up and moving every day. Speaking of boring workouts, let’s take a little flashback to my college days…
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday: Run. Lift. Stretch.
Tuesday: Run. Lift. Stretch.
Wednesday: Ru- nvm too sore.
Thursday: Ru –not feeling it today. I’ll lift arms and call it a day.
Friday: Come on girl, GET OUT OF BED. Okay I made it to the gym. Run. Lift. Stretch. Yesss.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was my week. Some weeks, I had more excuses and didn’t even attempt a walk to the gym. My problem? Probably lack of motivation or excitement. I needed something to look forward to! Nothing feels better than an exhausted body after a butt-kicking workout, but actually getting to that point can be a challenge in itself. Granted, weird college class schedules and extra-curriculars were always getting in the way. “Post-grad I’m gonna be so ripped” I always said to myself. How hard could it be? I’d be on a schedule! Wake up at 6 every day to get some cardio and weights in at my apartment’s small gym before my work day, work at the office until 5pm, and have the night to myself. Perfect.
Lol… not so perfect. Reality set in probably 2 and a half weeks into starting my full time job when I started to get lazy. 6am turned into hitting the snooze until 6:45am, which eventually turned into avoiding workouts altogether. I tried lifting, running, BBG by Kayla Itsines, nothing sounded better than the extra hour in my bed before a long day in the office. I was in a rut. I needed a change. What could I do to make a difference?
So finally comes the point to my entire post-I escaped the rut. Flexible for my (still sometimes hectic) schedule, gets me up in the morning/off the couch at night, and kicks. my. butt. Fitness studio classes. Of course it wasn’t a revolutionary idea when I first tried it at the beginning of this year. After all, my university offered fitness classes at our rec center for years and I had never given it a shot. What if everyone else in the class is super fit and I stick out cause I’m new? What if I get there and the instructor is really tough? What if I get 10 minutes into a cycling class and I’m so out of shape that I can’t pedal anymore? Okay so that last one actually happened to me. And you know what? It was no big deal. Everyone’s been there at some point and the instructors are there to push you to your furthest limit to be happy, get fit, and see results. I can’t wait to continue with this blog and talk about my experiences at local fitness studios in Columbus! Stay tuned and keep reading!
