Thank you so much for checking out my blog site—I hope you enjoy my latest blog//fitness studio review on Butcher Shop Fitness. They are by far one of my favorite studios, so if you have any questions or comments from your experience, let me know!! Enjoy :)

You know that tight, hurts-to-walk feeling in your thighs that you get after a “leg day” at the gym? Maybe a few too many squats or leg presses that left you feeling like Bambi the next morning? Intensify that feeling by 10 and THAT is how you will feel after attending just one class at Butcher Shop Fitness. Before scaring you off from ever even trying the studio (it is my goal to do the opposite, actually) let me take a step back and talk a little about the studio’s focus on Lagree Fitness and what it is all about.
Lagree Fitness is a fairly new concept, which began in 2001 and has rapidly gained popularity worldwide. By utilizing slow movements and isometric holds, the workout strengthens as well as tones muscles all over the body. A machine called a Megaformer [lol intimidating, right?] uses resistance and counter resistance as you push your feet out onto the sliding base to perform lunges, or lay on the base to pull in the hips for ab-crushers. (Jump to the bottom of the blog to see a picture of the machine to get a better idea)
As popular as the Megaformer has become, Butcher Shop Fitness is one of a few studios in Columbus to own the machines—which means classes are always booked full! German Village is home to the first Butcher Shop studio, which also includes about 8 bikes for a 30/30 workout class (30 minutes on the bike, 30 minutes on the Megaformer). The New Albany location is a smaller (and better decorated, in my opinion) studio, housing roughly 8-10 Megaformer machines total with a cute little pop-up juice shop in the back called Samba Fresh.
The German Village location has recently dropped ClassPass as its own members are having a hard time getting into the always full classes. However, I love this workout so much I make the drive from Grandview to New Albany at least every other Sunday to get in my “Catfish” and “Wheelbarrows”. [Note: Just because the GV location dropped ClassPass, this does NOT mean you can’t drop in for their rate of $23/class!] All prices are listed in a table at the bottom of this post!
I will never forget the first time I walked into the Butcher Shop Fitness Studio, because I just about walked right back out. Was this a workout class or a torture device?! The class before mine was just finishing up as I slipped on my grippy toe socks (not mandatory, but extremely helpful! Available at the studio or a local Target) and I watched the class’s sweat drip down their backs as they finished their last sets. Shortly after my class began, I was extremely pleased I had decided to stay..er..not chicken out. I realized the instructors are used to having new people try out the class every day, I got a great workout, and I am always dying to go back. The instructors are very descriptive when calling out the next positions to help out the newbies, while offering advanced alternative moves for those who need an extra push. Recently, I tried their 30/30 class for the first time. My instructor was a tiny little fit blonde, who had the sweetest voice but KILLED us on the bike. I'm talking 5 minutes into the 30 minute bike ride and my legs were screaming. This was a nice change-up from the regular strength/toning class I am used to because it added a little cardio, then we hit the Megaformer for the last 30 minutes to end the hour-long class.
Overall, I know I will have a great experience every time I walk in the door at Butcher Shop Fitness. If you love being pushed until your legs are shaking and quaking, receiving personal attention from knowledgeable instructors, and trying something new—get in to The Butcher Shop NOW!
